What is square
dancing all about?
Square dancing is a group activity that's all about fun.
It's a social activity done in a friendly atmosphere with
mutual respect and cooperation of all participants.
Square dancing is exercise. Square dance movements raise
the heart rate like a good aerobic exercises should. It's
a low impact activity requiring constant movement and
quick directional changes that help keep the body in
shape. It provides some excellent mental challenges. The
music and dancing are accompanied by a caller.
This person always announces to the dancers the dance
moves, telling them which direction to go and what moves
to make so that all the dancers are moving in unity and
doing the same steps at the same time. The caller strings
together a sequence of individual square dance calls to
make a figure or sequence. These calls are the building
blocks of the choreography that is danced by the
individuals, square dancers, in the squares.
Dancer Classes are scheduled to start up
again in Sept 2017. Watch for our signs.
